“Memory Whisperer” Column Selected as a “2022 Maude’s Award for Innovations in Alzheimer’s Care” Winner
Dana Territo’s “Memory Whisperer” column in The Advocate was selected as a 2022 Maude’s Award for Innovations in Alzheimer’s Care winner. The recipients of the 2022 Maude’s Awards for Innovations in Alzheimer’s Care make up eight organizations or individuals who have developed programs and practices of care that enrich the lives of people with dementia and their care partners.
Maude’s Awards mission is to “enrich the quality of life for persons living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their care partners—celebrating and inspiring innovative practices of care and sharing these practices with the wider dementia care community.”
Maude’s Awards are given to individuals excelling in one of the following categories of care for persons living with dementia and their care partners.
MAKING CONNECTIONS
Awarded annually to the individual or organization that has created meaningful opportunities for persons living with dementia to connect with the people and world around them. Examples: Creative arts programs, intergenerational opportunities, community service, or advocacy projects.
TREATING BY DESIGN
Awarded annually to the individual or organization that has significantly improved the living spaces and/or mobility of persons living with dementia. Examples include adaptive clothing or equipment, physical environments and horticulture, accessible transportation, and ease/safety of wheelchair transfer.
CULTIVATING HEALTH
Awarded annually to the individual or organization that has provided exceptional care or education that supports the long-term physical health of persons living with dementia. Examples: exercise, nutrition & diet, and new or more accessible health protocols.
SUPPORTING CARE PARTNERS
Awarded annually to the individual or organization that has provided impactful education, training or support for care partners of persons living with dementia Examples: respite and/or emotional support educational tools, ease of access to medical care and social services.
